Globally, six out of ten children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics. Specifically, over 265 million children are out of school and 22% of them are primary school age.

Who We Are
Curious Five Jr. is a student-led volunteer initiative based in the Bay Area, dedicated to inspiring curiosity and excitement in STEM—particularly in robotics and coding—among younger students. Our team consists of passionate high school students who volunteer their time and skills to introduce robotics to elementary and middle school-aged learners through engaging, hands-on experiences.
Our Motivation and Story
Curious Five Jr. was founded by high school students who previously competed in national and international robotics competitions such as First Lego League (FLL) and the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) during their middle school years. After aging out of these competitions, they sought to give back by creating opportunities for younger students to experience the same joy and learning they once did. Driven by a shared passion for robotics and education, they established Curious Five Jr. as a platform to foster creativity, collaboration, and exploration through STEM.
What We Do
Our program empowers self-motivated teen volunteers to take the lead in organizing and delivering robotics camps during spring and summer. These junior volunteers prepare all lesson plans, activities, and presentations, and actively lead each camp session. With full training provided during team meetings, students not only learn advanced concepts themselves but also gain valuable experience teaching others. Each volunteer has the opportunity to facilitate part of the camp, contributing to a dynamic, team-driven learning environment.
This program provides a unique platform for teens to develop leadership, teaching, and organizational skills—valuable experiences that stand out in both academic and extracurricular settings.
Our Impact Through Community Contribution
Volunteers in Curious Five Jr. work collaboratively to design course materials, develop lesson plans, and deliver engaging robotics content. In the process, they build essential skills like public speaking, teamwork, and leadership. More importantly, they serve as mentors to younger students, nurturing early interest in STEM fields and creating a positive ripple effect within the community.
By giving back through teaching, our volunteers not only reinforce their own knowledge but also leave a lasting impression on the next generation of curious minds.
