We are a team of talented and passionate volunteers.

Board of Directors

Phillip loves helping children develop a love for learning, engaging them in successful learning, and finally inspiring them into pursuing career in STEM. With so much joy and passion out of founding Curious Five, he values how important it is to be grateful. He received a Ph.D. in computer engineering from the University of Southern California, CA.

Phillip J, Ph.D.

Shinae believes that everyone deserves an equal opportunity in education. She has been practicing law for over 14 years. She has experience in complex litigation involving price fixing, patent and trademark prosecution and license negotiation. She received a J.D. degree at Gold Gate University, School of Law, CA. She is an active member of the State Bar of California.

Shinae Kim, J.D.

Jeanie has taught 15 years in New York City with special focus on early childhood and special education. She also worked as an education consultant in public schools in Boston and special education director and preschool director for 6 years in San Francisco Bay Area. She has prior experience developing programs and curriculum for new teachers and therapists. She received both a doctoral degree (Ed.D.) and a master’s degree (MA) from Columbia University, NY and Ed.M. from Harvard University, MA .

Jeanie Kim, Ed.D.

Sunkyung has 15 years of experience in the financial sector. She is highly regarded and accomplished business director with financial experience. She has acquired excellent organization and management skills. She studied sociology and international politics from the Catholic University of Korea and Hanyang University. She spends most of her free time reading books and news, and loves to influence others with her passion.

Sunkyung Choi

Soojung has more than 15 years of research and development experience through the National Institutes of Health, the University of Pennsylvania and Samsung. She also has prior experience in volunteering as a judge for high school competitions and science fairs. As a scientist and mother of 2 children, she believes curiosity and imagination challenge us to think outside the box and lead to innovation. She received a Ph.D. in biomedical science from the University of Warwick, U.K. She is now a real estate agent at Keller Williams.

Soojung Kim, Ph.D.

Our passionate and talented team members

Soo designs and puts together visual content for Curious Five. She has 15 years experience as a visual merchandiser. With the love for flowers, she received a DFA (Dutch Flower Arrangement) national certificate after completing the Florist and Business courses at La Rose Flower & School.

Soo Lee

Terry has been a software engineer with focus on frontend over 3 years. He cares deeply about making peoples’ lives more enjoyable and easy to navigate online. He loves basketball and snowboarding.

Terry Leem

Donna is a UX/UI designer and has worked as the sole designer at a healthcare VR based startup. Outside of design, Donna enjoys drinking Korean tea and creating amazing experience through travel!

Donna Choi

Jimin is a UX/UI designer in the SF Bay Area for 2+ years after graduating from the Academy of Art University for her Master’s. She is eager to solve user experience problems and loves to learn new technology.

Jimin Ha

Grace is a learning technologist based on Austin, TX with 7+ years of teaching and instructional design. She is currently pursuing Ph.D. in learning technologies at UT Austin and conducting various EdTech projects and research.

Grace Ko

Soomin is an educator, bridge builder, and advisor with 5+ years of experience in education. She is passionate about international education, global citizenship, and lifelong learning. She completed her master’s at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Soomin Park

Casey is a software engineer with 3+ years of experience, building project management tools and a social media platform. She received her bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from University of California, Los Angeles.

Casey Kim

Julie is a product designer based in the Bay Area, CA with 6+ years of volunteer experience in education and mentorship. She loves all things design and enjoys traveling with her two dogs.

Julie Chang

Kelly is a Taiwanese visual designer currently working for Haus at west Hollywood, Los Angeles. She loves nature, animals, and all of yummy!

Kelly Chen

Minsol is pursuing a data scientist, majoring in Computer Science at California State University, East Bay, CA. She has experience in STEM tutoring at the Math/STEM lab and Research Assistant at Prof. Zahra D.’s lab. She is interested in NLP, machine learning, and data science.

Minsol Jeong

Lucy is a backend engineer with 10+ years of experience after her master’s degree in computer science at the University of Minnesota-Twin cities, She is interested in building large-scale APIs, services, and systems. Outside of work, she enjoys running, boxing, Taekwondo and listening to music.

Lucy Lim

Ian works as a data scientist at Amazon, helping to improve Alexa. He received a Master’s degree in bioengineering at Stanford, and is originally from New Zealand. He enjoys running and singing.

Ian Kim

Yoyo is a Math teacher based on Bay Area with 5 years of teaching and instructional design experience. She is pursuing Ed.D. in Organization and Leadership at the University of San Francisco.

Yoyo Wu

Soyoung is a conversational AI architect at AWS where she works with customers across multiple industries to develop specialized conversational assistants which have helped these customers provide their users faster and accurate information through natural language. She has MS and BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

High School Student Ambassadors - Curious Five Jr Volunteers

Matthew is a student at Bellarmine College Preparatory (BCP) high school located in San Jose, CA. He has participated in the WRO (World Robotic Olympiad) and won US National Championship (2019, 2021), followed by representing as a team USA for WRO World Championship. He is a member of FRC (First Robotics Competition) team at BCP and leading the volunteering program at Curious Five.

Matthew Jung

Lynn is a student at Castro Valley high school located in Castro Valley, CA. She has participated in the WRO (World Robotic Olympiad) and won US National Championship (2021). She enjoys teaching the kids at the district junior math competition, Taekwondo, and Korean.

Lynn Bae

Joshua is a student at Foothill high school located in Pleasanton, CA. He has awarded 2019 WRO (World Robotic Olympiad) US National Championship. He is passionate about mechanics and enjoys fixing bicycles for volunteering.

Katherine is a student at Foothill high school located in Pleasanton, CA. She attended the 2019 FLL (First Lego League) Northern California Competition. She is teaching Java coding and robotics to the kids for volunteering.

Caleb is a student at California High School and he loves to code and teach kids. He is in JV basketball team for high school and build keyboards in his free time.

Ajin is currently a student at Amador Valley High School. She enjoys doing math, solving puzzles, and gymnastics. She is part of a psychology research lab which allows her to socialize with other people and express her passions.

Eagan Kim is a student at California High School located in San Ramon, California. He enjoys playing soccer and is currently on the freshman team for his high school. In his freetime, he likes playing games and discovering new things.

Ethan currently attends Dougherty Valley High School. He is currently a freshman, and loves math, coding, and the violin. He has played violin for around 8 years, and has programmed in Python for 8 years as well.

Some of Kangmin Ryu’s passions are math and saxophone. In his free time, he enjoys watching movies and TV shows. He joined Curious Five to learn more about robotics and have the opportunity to learn with others.

Hyeonah is a student at Harvest Park Middle School located in Pleasanton, CA. She has done robotics since 2019, has won second place in 2019 WEDO National Championships, and has won fourth place in 2021 WRO Powerbot. She has a passion for robotics and engineering, participating in camps and classes whenever she has the chance.

Christian Chung is a dedicated 11th grade student at California High School with a passion for innovation and technology. As the founder of StemSpark, a robotics club that emphasizes the integration of coding and robotics, he has spearheaded initiatives to foster a community of young innovators. With three years of coding experience, he has honed my skills and applied them in various VEX robotics competitions, demonstrating his commitment to practical learning and problem-solving.
